Frequently Asked Questions
FAQs
What time are services on Sunday morning?
Adult Bible Study & Sunday School (for Youth & Children) begin at 9:15 AM. Our worship service is at 10:30 AM with nursery care for infants through pre-k and children’s worship for elementary aged kids. A choir and traditional music support our worship. We celebrate communion on the first Sunday of every month. Our worship service usually lasts one hour.
Do you offer programs for Children and Youth?
We offer a wide range of discipleship, ministry and mission opportunities for youth and children.
On Sunday mornings, we offer Sunday School for all age levels, worship and children’s worship. Children accompany their family to the 10:30 AM worship service and are dismissed to their age-appropriate worship with their leaders. Children are escorted to the Hospitality Center following children’s worship to join their parents for the Coffee Connection.
On Sunday evenings (5:00-7:00 PM), our youth meet for CONNECT, a time of fellowship, dinner and worship.
Our youth are very involved in the life of Walnut Hills and participate in several trips and retreats throughout the year as well as a summer mission trip.
TeamKID (Kids in Discipleship) is a weekly after-school discipleship program. TeamKID is a fun, high-energy ministry that encourages kids to know Jesus Christ and to grow in a relationship with Him.
What is a Virginia Baptist church?
Walnut Hills Baptist Church is rooted in ministry. The church regularly serves needs in the Williamsburg community as well as opportunities beyond the borders of our city. Having formally left the Southern Baptist Convention in 2001, Walnut Hills provides the opportunity for each giver to determine what the missions portion of their gift supports: Virginia Missions Only, Virginia Missions and the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, or Virginia Missions and the Southern Baptist Convention.
In addition to local ministries, the church has two associational relationships. Each association is supported financially through the church budget.
The Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV), founded in 1823, is an umbrella organization of Baptist churches. BGAV is a cooperative missions and ministry organization that consists of over 1,360 autonomous churches in the Commonwealth of Virginia, as well as churches from Seoul, South Korea, Toronto, Ontario, the District of Columbia, and the states of California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and West Virginia.

The Peninsula Baptist Association (PBA) is a network of churches located in Hampton, Poquoson, Gloucester, Newport News, Williamsburg and the surrounding areas. Emphases of the PBA include training, networking, mentoring and leadership coaching.

What should I wear?
Many people dress in “business attire” though you’ll find a variety of dress. Some men wear coats and ties while others wear a golf shirt and khakis. Many women wear slacks while others prefer dresses. We hope you’ll join us wearing whatever enables you to be comfortable as we worship God together.
Where should I park?
There are two driveway entrances into the parking areas. You may park anywhere in the front, the right side of the main entrance with columns or in the larger parking lots toward the back of the main building.
There are accessible spaces in both the front and rear parking lots and doors to the buildings are accessible entrances. You will be greeted at Welcome Stations by the main entrance in front of the church, as well as in front of the doors to the children and youth ministry building adjacent to the rear parking lots.
What is the Coffee Connection?
Every Sunday, except for the summer months, we hold a reception in our Hospitality Center. The Coffee Connection immediately follows our 10:30 AM Sunday morning worship service. Members and guests are invited and encouraged to attend this wonderful time of fellowship, light refreshments, cool beverages and coffee. This informal gathering is the perfect time for us to introduce ourselves and meet your family.
